TWO conscientious Southampton students enjoyed a visit to the House of Commons after their school won a children's rights competition.
Jenni Allcock, 16, and Amy Jackson, 14, from St Anne's Convent School, Rockstone Place, were presented with certificates by Foreign Office Minister Bill Rammell.
They helped scoop the first prize by writing a song about human rights and producing a play.
Their school won £500 to spend on human rights materials. The competition, held to highlight International Human Rights Day.
Southampton Itchen MP John Denham, the Minister for Children and Young People, entertained the pair during their Commons visit.
He said: "I congratulate the students and staff at St Anne's. To win, the school undertook a wide and impressive range of work to highlight human rights.
"I was particularly impressed with the level of student involvement and commitment to the project.
"I am working to increase young peoples' engagement in democracy and citizenship. It is great to see young people taking such a keen interest in the wider world."
