IT TURNED into a black Christmas for Ordnance Survey midfielder Paul Phipps in Saturday's Hampshire League Division 2 derby match against Hamble Club.

Phipps went into a 50-50 challenge just before half-time and broke his leg. Survey, who were well on top at the time, were detuned by the incident and collapsed to a 2-0 defeat.

Before half-time when Survey were bossing affairs, they missed their two principle strikers Steel Saunders and Brenton McLean. Saunders has been snapped up by Fleet Town and McLean is serving a seven-game ban.

Darren Harley and Gordon McLean scored the Hamble club goals in the second-half.

Premier Division leaders Winchester City returned to league action after a long run of cup ties and beat Stockbridge 4-1. Three of the goals came in the first-half then when Stocks had a man sent-off early in the second period they shut up shop and City created very little in the way of chances.

Kev Brewster, restored to his favoured midfield position, scored twice for City with Ian Mancey and Dave Goss, from a set-piece, getting the others.

Poole Town won their derby encounter against Ringwood Town 2-1. French striker Karim Banssaouda kept his goal-a-game sequence going with the equaliser after Poole old boy Jason Lovell had given in-form Ringwood the lead. Jamie Holland got the crucial second goal for Poole with 20 minutes left.

Former Pirelli General striker Gary Male scored twice against his old club as Vosper Thornycroft trimmed the Cablemakers 6-0. There was just two goals in it going into the second-half when Vospers really emphasised the big gap between the two sides. Michael Spinney (2), Marc Diaper and Ben Tyrrell, back after a groin injury, got the others for Vospers.

Locks Heath ended a run of three defeats by winning the derby match against Bishop's Waltham 4-0. All the goals came in the second half from Marc Jones (2), Craig Finch and Joe Morton, son of second team manager John, who was proudly looking on.

Alresford switched midfielder Brett Young to front-line duties for their derby clash with Micheldever in Division 1 and he repaid them with both goals in a 2-1 victory. Young bagged his brace in the second half after Micheldever had led at the break.

Top met bottom in Division 2 when Laverstock & Ford entertained Romsey Town. But you wouldn't have known it as Romsey, with just one point, took an early lead.

Laverstock 'keeper Liam McConnell stepped up to convert a penalty just before half-time then Owen Thoms came off the bench to nick it for the leaders with just two minutes left.

Broughton made it four wins from four games under new manager Paul Cullen when Callum Robertson (2) and Lee Williams edged them to a 3-2 win over Otterbourne. The first three goals were crammed into a five-minute period just before half-time.
