Newbury's revival under caretaker manager Jim Goslin continued with a 4-0 victory over Christchurch at Faraday Road.

The win means that Newbury have won three and drawn one of their four league matches in December - a record which should see them challenging Gosport for the Daily Echo-sponsored Club of the Month award.

"There's no secret," explained Goslin. "A few players have left and the ones who remain want to play for this football club. The first win against Blackfield at the beginning of the month lifted them and their confidence has grown ever since."

Newbury's breakthrough came right on half-time when the Christchurch 'keeper brought down Yashwa Romeo and skipper James Caswell stepped up to despatch the resultant penalty.

After 55 minutes Romeo burst through to beat the 'keeper in a one-on-one situation before Geoff Neville cut in from the left and passed two defenders to slam home their third 11 minutes later.

Substitute Tate Hulbert bagged a fourth in the last minute after Daniel Mattingley had teed him up.

Bournemouth Poppies also suffered a four-goal margin of defeat when they were beaten 5-1 away at Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

"We played very well and thoroughly deserved our victory," said Bemerton boss Steve Slade. "We lost something like nine of our first 12 games but we've only been beaten once in our last 11."

Neil Cole combined with Ian Chalk to head Harlequins into an tenth-minute lead, which they doubled after 22 minutes when Carl James crossed for Roger Maynard to head home the first of his three goals.

On the hour Maynard broke down the left and fired his shot into the bottom corner and, although Poppies bagged a consolation, he completed his hat-trick after 80 minutes from the penalty spot after he had been brought down.

Bemerton bagged a fifth five minutes from time when Cole and Chalk dummied a cross from the right and Danny Aplin netted.

Resurgent Andover came from behind to secure a 3-1 success over Moneyfields at the Portway Stadium.

After both Marion Nurse and Terry Lynch hit struck the Moneyfields woodwork, the visitors snatched a 23rd-minute lead when Joe Long sprinted clear from halfway to open the scoring.

The Lions replied five minutes before half-time when Lewis Savage handled the ball on the goal-line and Glen Damen crashed home the resulting spot-kick.

On 70 minutes, Nurse found leading goalscorer Justin Bennett who turned his marker to rifle in a shot which beat the keeper at his near post and the scoreline was completed eight minutes later when Lynch caught Moneyfields on the break to beat the 'keeper in a one-on-one.

Portland arrested their recent slide with a 4-1 home win over Downton who dominated the first half yet went in a goal down.

Both Robins' Russ James and John Nash rattled the woodwork but it was the Dorset side who netted with a Chris Evans penalty after James Reeve had been pushed.

The home club added a second on 55 minutes when Darren Whyton headed in Andy Mason's flag-kick before Lee Cornick struck with a diving header ten minutes later.

Mark Savage netted with a late header for Downton but Portland restored their three-goal cushion through Evans, who rounded off a three-man move with a crisp 15-yard shot.
