It's huge - and it's roaring towards you this holiday. Disney's The Lion King is the latest big name animated movie to be adapted for the giant IMAX screen; and it brings a whole new perspective to this well-known favourite.

You haven't seen a Disney, your certainly haven't heard a Disney movie, until you have experienced it at the IMAX.

Big pictures I was expecting, big sound I wasn't. The whole experience is spellbinding - and they say cartoons are for kids.

Reformatted specifically for the giant screen from the film's original digital elements, this special limited engagement offers movie goers a chance to experience one of the greatest animated adventures with a spectacular newly remixed soundtrack.

Bournemouth's IMAX cinema is one of several throughout the country to play the by now well-known story of Simba the lion prince who has his throne stolen by his evil uncle.

We all know the songs from the collaboration of Tim Rice and Elton John - Just can't wait to be King, Circle of Life", and Hakuna Matata.

The charcaters also have lost none of their charm: cubs Simba and Nala, mad monkey Rafiki, nasty Scar and loveable rogues Pumbaa and Timon.

The Lion King was originally released in 1994 and went on to become the most successful animated film of all time with a worldwide gross in excess of $771m. Eight years after its debut, it continues to hold the box-office crown as the top grossing animated film and it occupies the number ten spot on the list of all time worldwide box-office champs, just behind Star Wars and ET: The Extra-Terrestrial. Beyond its record-breaking success at the box office, The Lion King went on to become the bestselling video in home entertainment history and inspired one of the most successful Broadway shows of all time.

Helping to bring the film's colorful cast of characters convincingly to life is a group of vocal talents. Simba's voice as an adult belongs to actor Matthew Broderick, the unmistakable roar of King Mufasa comes from renowned actor James Earl Jones. Jeremy Irons earned his place in Disney's gallery of classic villains with his deliciously nasty delivery as Scar.

Also featured in the vocal cast is Rowan Atkinson, the popular British comic actor best known for his television portrayals of Mr Bean and Blackadder, who fills the bill here as a haughty hornbill.

The Lion King is the fourth major Disney animated feature to be presented on the Giant Screen. Fantasia/2000 made its historic debut in IMAX Theatres on January 1, 2000. Beauty and the Beast featured an added musical number (Human Again) when it bowed in a special Large Format Cinema Edition in 2002. More recently, Disney's exciting new animated adventure, Treasure Planet made movie history when it became the first new film to receive a simultaneous release in 35mm and Large Format versions. IM
