Visitors to the Theatre Royal Winchester's Atrium Caf could be mistaken for thinking they're in Outer Space, thanks to an exciting, original art project by Ridgemead Junior School, at Bishop's Waltham.
Its 30 Year 5 pupils worked with two characters, Dr Flexor and Dr Sartorius, from the Ballyhoo Theatre Company to help rebuild the Ballyhoo planetarium, destroyed in an earthquake.
They researched the nine planets of the solar system and, working to a scale of 100,000,000 to 1, they calculated the size of the models and rebuilt them. Using this scale the sun has a diameter of 14 metres.
If the sun was placed at Ridgemead School, the planets would be as far afield as Salisbury and the Isle of Wight - and Pluto would be in Dorking! The colourful planets will be on display at the Theatre Royal until the end of January.
