Idlewild, Southampton Guildhall
THERE'S no denying Idlewild are a brilliant group with a great repertoire of uplifting indie songs.
But there was something flat about their performance at Southampton Guildhall.
They played plenty of crowd-pleasers, such as When I Argue I See Shapes, You Held the World in Your Arms and (I Am) What I Am Not but the gig never really got off its feet.
Perhaps the band are used to playing their act down after supporting Coldplay, but in the past they have had a real energy to their live shows.
That said, the gig did have its plus points. Roddy's voice was strong live and even if the songs weren't performed dynamically, they were still good. Overall, the band could have done with being wilder and a little less idle.
