ANDOVER police have stepped up patrols in the town centre in the run up to the Christmas festivities.

Pc Ted Reynolds said the main aim was to reassure the public and help reduce the fear of crime as thieves target laden Christmas shoppers.

But there will also be extra patrols at night to maintain public order as revellers begin to celebrate at festive parties.

This week police warned shoppers to be extra vigilant against opportunist thieves. "The aim of the daytime patrols is to provide public reassurance at this time of year," said Pc Reynolds.
