HAMBLE'S fearless yachtswoman Emma Richards has set sail on the latest leg of her lone venture to conquer the world.

Emma is the sole British competitor in the Around Alone race which will be covering 28,755 miles in the world's roughest and most remote oceans.

Emma has a burning ambition to match the headlining single handed racing exploits of Ellen MacArthur.

On board her yacht Pindar, Emma became the first woman to sail single-handed across the Atlantic from west to east in a monohull boat.

The 2002 race started in New York on September 15 and the first port of call was Brixham, Devon, 2,930 nautical miles away.

Yesterday Emma and her fellow competitors set sail from Torbay in Devon on the second leg heading for Cape Town, South Africa.
