IT'S BRIAN Conley. Oh yes it is! The entertainer was in playful mood at Harbour Lights cinema, Ocean Village, Southampton, yesterday as he met his public at the official Mayflower pantomime launch.

Descending the stairs in with sandwich board and speaking through a megaphone, the cheeky prankster told funny stories and signed autographs to promote his leading role in Cinderella.

Conley, 41, is best known for his self-titled TV chat show and Seventies-based sitcom The Grimleys, in which he played sadistic PE teacher Doug Digby. He has also appeared in films and major West End shows, including Jolson and Me And My Girl.

He will play Buttons in the classic pantomime, which runs at the Southampton theatre from December 19 to January 26.

This will be the 18th time Conley has appeared in panto. He was last at The Mayflower five years ago, also in Cinderella.

"It is the best pantomime. It lends itself so well to comedy," said the entertainer, who began his career aged 16 as a Pontin's bluecoat in Devon.

The show will also star ventriloquist Dawson Chance as the Baron, Lynsey Britton as Cinderella and Nigel Ellacott and Peter Robbins as the Ugly Sisters.
