St Mary's football ground is the last stop for Corporal Terry Twining, who jogs into Southampton on September 11th to end an epic fund-raising tour of England's premier league stadiums.

The 29-year-old British Army soldier will have run to every football ground in the premier league - a total of 600 miles - to raise cash for the Twin Towers' Orphan Fund.

The charity is collecting money to provide higher educational support, as well as mental and physical health care, to children who lost parents in the September 11th World Trade Center attacks.

Corporal Twining, from Northern Ireland, started his fundraising tour on August 23rd at Newcastle, and Southampton, the furthest south of the premier league stadiums, is the last stop.

The finish date, on Wednesday, will mark the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York.

He will have run, on average, more than a marathon a day for 21 days by the time he has finished, and worn through about six pairs of trainers.

Corporal Twining, who was told to put on a stone in weight to counteract what he would lose by running every day, hopes to set a Guinness world record as well as raise money for victims of last year's attacks.

He and his team will be hitting the streets of Southampton when they arrive, to collect money for the charity. They will also collect football memorabilia along the way, which will be auctioned at the end of the season.
