OVERTON Harriers recently made their annual pilgrimage to Headington, near Oxford, to compete in a well-supported five miles road race.
Mark Simcox was the only runner from the village club to break 30 minutes when finishing 31st, and was followed four minutes later by the evergreen Eric Tilbury in 91st place. Audra Dennison just lost out to Tilbury by 12s and two places, whilst Dave Titcomb finished a further two minutes down in 131st place.
Club rivalry seldom spills over into competition between club officials, but at Overton every member competes, and none more so than club president John Thomas and secretary Gwyneth McLaughlin, who battled it out to the end with ‘JT’ gaining the upper hand by 17s. Karen Burton completed the Harriers interest finishing in 234th place.
On the same day, Overton’s promising 14-year-old Aaron Harris was a comfortable winner of his age group when he took part in a recent aquathlon at Fareham, finishing over a minute clear of his nearest rival with a combined time of 14:40s for an event that comprised a 400m swim and 3k run .
