DRIVERS have been warned they face six months of delays as construction starts today on two mini-roundabouts in Brighton Hill.

The scheme also includes traffic calming measures in Sullivan Road, Chopin Road and Quilter Road, and a puffin crossing in Brighton Way.

Work gets under way today with the installation of a temporary crossing in Brighton Way while work takes place on the subways.

Construction of the mini-roundabouts, at the junctions off Sullivan Road and Chopin Road, which is connected with the new Asda development, is expected to start on September 23 and last until the end of January.

Although it is not a county council scheme, Hampshire County Council, as highways authority, is responsible for traffic management measures.

Cllr Keith Estlin, the county's executive member for environment, said: "These works will inevitably cause some disruption and drivers should be prepared for delays, particularly when work starts on building the roundabouts.

"If at all possible, motorists should avoid travelling during peak hours or perhaps consider car sharing or alternative forms of transport, such as cycling or taking the bus."

The work will be restricted to between the hours of 7.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday, and 7.30am to 1pm on Saturdays.
