HAMPSHIRE rally co-driver Alyson Marlow escaped from a high speed roll on last weekend's Scottish Rally while she and Canadian driver Pat Rickard were leading the Peugeot 206 Super Cup challenge.

A storming drive by the pair had wowed the crowds as the 206 Super Cup headed north of the border but their efforts were cut short on the final stage of the event with a crash which has almost wrecked the car.

The pair took a fast left- hand corner a little too tightly and a rock launched them into three rolls, the car ending up lodged on a tree trunk.

"We were ready to get going again but the suspension was broken so that was us out of the rally," said Alyson. "It's really disappointing not to win but we never thought we would even by vying for the lead at this stage of the year so I'm pleased we have at least shown we can be on the pace and neither of us was hurt in the crash - just a few aches and pains.''

Alyson has teamed up with Pat, who is splitting his time between the Canadian championship, which he leads, and the top British series.

With co-driver Alyson Marlow, Pat has been fine-tuning his pace notes - something which doesn't feature in North American and Canadian rallying.

With Pat now heading back to Canada for the next round of that championship the race is on to reshell the car in time for the Jim Clark Rally next month.

The Edinburgh-based event will provide another steep learning curve for the Canadian, who has never rallied on Tarmac before. "This year is all about learning and it's just one lesson after another,'' he said.
