ORGANISERS of Gosport's 20th anniversary commemoration of the ending of the Falklands War want as many people as possible to turn up on Sunday June 16.

Gosport council is urging visitors to allow extra time for travelling because of all the extra security measures.

But they insist the town centre will still be very much open to the public.

The remembrance ceremony attended by former prime minister Baroness Thatcher and island governor Sir Rex Hunt will take place in Falkland Gardens at 11am.

Shops in the town centre will be checked and secured on Saturday evening and on Sunday some areas and car parks will be closed.

The bus station will be closed throughout the service. Buses will leave and drop off from Creek Road by Safeway from 9am until noon. The taxi rank will close at the ferry terminal at 8am. Taxis will temporarily operate from Walpole Road between 8am and noon.

The town hall and the bus station car parks will be closed, but there will be extra parking in Walpole Park. The Portsmouth-to-Gosport ferry will be cancelled from 10.15am until noon.
