LONGPARISH batsman Paul White got amongst the runs in last week's Winchester Evening League game away to Ropley by blasting an unbeaten 88 - his best score yet for the village club (reports Ken Ball).

The 'Parish, batting first on a good wicket, lost opener John Young without a run on the board and after two of the 18 overs had been played had still not opened their account.

White eventually got into his stride with some aggressive hard hitting and, along with Indian overseas player Anan Doshi (42no), added 146 runs in an unbroken second wicket stand, with White notching three sixes and 10 fours.

Ropley, in reply, had to score at eight runs an over to win but they lost wickets at regular intervals, and with them failing to produce a partnership of any significance scored 100-9 from their 18 overs.

John Young took 2-20 from his five overs, Chris Clarke took 2-31 from five and Anan Doshi had 2-20 from four while the 'Parish fielders contributed three run outs. The only downside for the local side was that they could only raise 10 players.
