THE DEEP rumble of mechanical thunder filled Romsey's ancient Cornmarket as a jubilee procession of Harley Davidson motorcycles toured the Test Valley.

Mayor of Test Valley Tony Gentle and mayoress Rita Gentle strapped on their helmets and grabbed some leathers to ride on the back of the monster machines.

A total of 74 classic US motorcyles met up in Romsey town centre for the ride to Stockbridge and Andover on Saturday.

It finished up at Quarley, near Andover, where Councillor Gentle performed the jubilee opening of a new arts and craft centre.

It has been set up in a converted farm building to give work space to artists, sculptors and craftsmen and is open to the public.

Cllr Gentle said he had not been on a motorbike for many years but enjoyed the experience a great deal.

In fact he even asked the bikers if he could ride with them all the way to the arts centre rather than stop and get in the mayoral car for the last few miles.
