PAUL ARNOLD has quit as manager of Brockenhurst and is being hotly tipped to land the vacant post at Jewson Wessex League rivals Wimborne Town.

Under Arnold, Brock finished the season with 12 out of 14 wins to wind up sixth but, after meeting the Brock committee, he did not believe he would have the financial scope to improve next season.

He said: "Brockenhurst are a lovely club, but I didn't want to stay if we were not going to be as strong as we were this year."

In a double blow for the Badgers, secretary Pete Plowman is also considering leaving.

Plowman's two-and-a-half seasons at Grigg Lane have been riddled with upheavals behind the scenes and Plowman said: "I told the club at the weekend before Arnie went that I would not be standing again at the AGM.

"I love Brock and my heart and soul's in the club, but we need more people on the football side. All the work is coming down on the same people."

Arnold had only been at the Brock helm since early January, having stepped up from the coach's role when Chris Collinge stood down as manager.

Lymington & New Milton striker Leigh Phillips has been fined £10 and ordered to serve the remaining seven days of his ban after returning from suspension a week early in March.

The club themselves have been fined £75 for the administrative mix-up and could still face a points deduction from the Jewson Wessex League. Phillips will miss the week starting September 2.

Winchester City took the fizz out of Andover's championship champagne beating the Lions 3-1 in last night's North Hants Senior Cup final at the Portway Stadium.

The Hampshire Leaguers profited from a controversial start when Andover defender Glen Damen was sent off for alleged use of the elbow on Paul Nelson and Kevin Brewster converted the seventh-minute penalty.

Andover, crowned Jewson Wessex League champions just three days earlier, sank deeper into trouble seven minutes later.

Adam Rogers pinned them back with a forceful run and cross from the right and defender Danny Barker, who had just collected Lions' player-of-the-year award, put into his own net.

Andy Forbes halved the deficit after 80-minutes, but man-of-the-match Nelson settled matters with a last-minute 30-yarder to wreck Andover's hopes of a quadruple trophy scoop.
