POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a hit-and-run incident in which a Gosport woman was knocked off her bike and carried 200 metres on the bonnet of a car.

Susan Janet Ready, 44, fell from the car on to the road in Brune Lane before it sped off from the scene.

Mrs Ready, of Tukes Avenue, Bridgemary, is in a stable condition in the high dependency unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, after being admitted with serious fractures to the arms and legs.

The mother of three adult daughters and a 16-year-old son, she was cycling home from her job as a care assistant when she was struck by a black Nissan Bluebird in Broom Way, Peel Common Road, Fareham, at 7.50pm on Thursday.

A police spokeswoman said: "The woman was found at the junction of Broom Way and Brune Lane, some 200 to 250 metres from where she was struck."

Later that night, the police found a black Nissan Bluebird with its engine running and headlights on abandoned in Blackburn Court.

A 19-year-old youth from Gosport was arrested nearby in connection with the collision and a second youth, aged 16, was arrested later. Both are still in custody.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw a black Nissan Bluebird registration F58 NCF in the greater Fareham or Gosport area on Thursday to contact them.
