BADMINTON: ANDOVER regained top place in women's division two of the Castlegate Investments-sponsored Basingstoke and District League with a 6-3 win over Waverley at Harriett Costello.

Karen Causley/Sue Clarke and Ann Viney/Helen Li scored trebles for Andover while each of the Waverley pairings, Caroline Rodbourne/Shirley Caswell, Heather Mountford/Doreen Quilter and Margaret Quinn/Christine Fowler won one rubber.

Although beaten 6-3 at Winchester Road by Beechdown B, Phoenix remain in the second promotion position. Alison Rendall/Gill Trimmer won two rubbers for Phoenix, supported by one from Carolyn Neale/Chris Bell. The winners' rubbers came from Sarah Ludlow/Debbie Watkins (3), Claire Cremins/Lynn Perini (2) and Clare Taylor/Karen Southwell.

Scott Wilkins/Graeme Berry won their three rubbers, Jon Thomson/Neil Hodges two and Steve Ineson/Ian Shoard one when Phoenix A beat Firefly 6-3 at The Hurst in men's division two.

Phil Pike and Basil Slann won two of the three Firefly rubbers, supported by one from Steve Webb/John Weston. Beechdown B beat BH Pegasus B 5-4 with Martin Webb/Mark Bayliss winning a maximum for Beechdown B, with Nick Jones/Bruce Scott and Tim Williams/Phil Vinnicombe supplying one each. Trevor Lay/Martin Davey and brothers Dale and Dane Turpin each recorded two rubbers for the losers.

Aldermaston regained top place in division three with a fine 7-2 victory over two-pair Basing Cavaliers. Graham Page/Glynn Libberton won their two rubbers for Aldermaston and Paul Roper/Lawrence Sutton and Rod Jenkins/David Lowe contributed one each. Stephen Gaunt/Andrew Dance secured the two rubbers for the Cavaliers, who a couple of days later obtained a maximum nine points when Loddon failed to turn up to fulfil a re-arranged fixture.

Although they lost for the first time this season, Alresford are still the leaders in division four. BH Pegasus C beat Alresford 5-4. Frank Dowling/James Skilton and Bill Mitchell/Ray Chow each won two rubbers for Pegasus while Steve Glover/Dave Harfield contributed one. Bob Thirwell/Scott Page won two rubbers for Alresford, with Adrian Tyrell/Ted Dowson and Nigel Butcher/John Read getting one each.

Dave Sneddon/Mark Holden won three rubbers for Andover, supported by two from Geoff Lewis/Doug Taylor in a 5-4 win at Phoenix B. Andy Crouch/Darren Nicholls won two of the losers' rubbers, with Bob Cosgrove/Simon Williamson and Kevin Caldicott/John Shipman getting one each.

BH Pegasus B continued their supremacy of mixed division three, with a 6-3 win over Sherpas at John Hunt. Phil Kopp/Cheryl Matthews won one of the three Sherpas' rubbers, with Chris Young/Stephanie Matthews securing two. Andy Lang/Vanessa Thrower won a maximum for BH Pegasus B. Steve Glover/Sue Lorrain contributed two, with Tony Ashworth/Jean Deverill getting the sixth.

Phoenix A reached second place, behind Pegasus, with an 8-1 home win over Waverley A, for whom Alex Groom/Caroline Rodbourne secured the consolation rubber. Graeme Berry/Carolyn Neale and Neil Hodges/Linda Quilter won a maximum three rubbers for Phoenix, with Jon Thomson/Gill Trimmer supplying two.

Loddon are now five points ahead of Firefly at the top of division four following a 6-3 home victory over Aldermaston B. Firefly have a match in hand and the final match in the season in the division between these two teams could be the decider.

Phil Hood/Lee Timperley won three rubbers for Loddon, supported by two from Richard Burt/Jean Shanks and one from Steve Woodward/Carol Hayes. Glynn Libberton/Marion Hince won two of the losers' rubbers, with Lawrence Sutton/Joan Vinall supplying the third.
