KLEBER CHALA's Gold Cup adventure came to a dramatic end in Miami last night as Ecuador staged a remarkable comeback with two late goals - but still found themselves dumped out of the competition by the bad luck of the lottery.
The Southampton midfielder played all 90 minutes of the clash with Canada in the Orange Bowl.
He had one of the best chances of the game, slipping through the Canadian defence in the first quarter of an hour and forcing a diving save from goalkeeper Lars Hirschfield.
Ecuador staged a late rally with Alex Aguinaga scoring two minutes from time, and then the team captain scored again from the penalty spot three minutes into injury time.
But the remarkable comeback didn't mean a thing for Ecuador, guests in the Concacaf tournament.
The result tied the South Americans with Canada and Haiti in Group D - all on two points, with two goals for and two goals against.
Canada were pulled first out of the hat and will play Martinique in the quarter-final, Haiti were second and will take on Costa Rica, while Ecuador fly home empty-handed.
