TWO men are being questioned by police in connection with a raid on Fareham High Street's Hansford's fishing shop where almost £4,000 worth of jackets were stolen.

Thieves had smashed through the front door of the shop and taken 27 fashionable Musto jackets, worth upwards of £100 each. The total value of the haul, which took place at 11.50pm on Wednesday, is estimated at £3,900. As they left the building, a sharp-eyed member of the public noted the registration number of the car they climbed into and reported it to police.

The car, which had been reported stolen from the Portsmouth area, was spotted returning to the city by police, who pulled it over. There were three men inside, but one escaped. The remaining two were returned to Fareham police station for questioning.

A Hansford's staff member, who did not want to be named, said: "It is a small, family-run business of hard-working people and for someone to come and steal from us feels awful."
