GARETH MOON was over the moon after winning the final of the Marshall Rolfe Toyota Club Angling Challenge fished on Stoneham Lakes at the weekend.

Heavy overnight rain saw weights lower than expected.

Despite many anglers taking good bags of fish in practice sessions Eastleigh-based Moon sailed to victory needing only two carp from peg 101 for 20lb 2oz to lift the individual title of Toyota Clubman of The Year, and take £150 in prize money.

He fished close in on the pole to take fish of 10lb 14oz and 9lb 4oz, both fish taken on corn over trout pellet.

Ringwood's Stuart Freeman was the runner-up fishing from peg 106 to take 16lb 5oz which consisted of a 10lb 4oz carp taken on the method and 5lb 7oz of small bream on the ground bait feeder.

Third place went to Graham Lavendar (Ringwood) who took 13lb 10oz of carp and roach on the waggler. Behind the top three were Gordon Warner (TVAC) in fourth with 10lb 1oz, fifth Morris Townsend (TVAC) 6lb 5oz and sixth Bob Drew (Eastleigh) 5lb 15oz. The team event went to TVAC with a total points score of 119, 16 points clear of runners up Ringwood on 103 points.

Eastleigh came third with 100 points and fourth were Cormorants AC with 48 points.

TVAC team members Gordon Warner and Morris Townsend both drew fancied pegs on the dam area of the lake and caught carp to 10lb 1oz and 6lb 5oz respectively. Other team members all scored good points to help the squad lift the title of Toyota Club Team of The Year.
