A DAD whose two-year-old son is fighting for his life against cancer says he's delighted with the support he's received for his fundraising mission.

Mike Bowler, whose son Daniel is undergoing chemotherapy treatment, has received scores of phone calls offering help for the sponsored walk he's trying to organise later this month.

After The Gazette broke the news last Monday of Daniel's fight against neuro-blastoma - a form of cancer that affects the whole body - residents have jammed his phone line asking how they can get involved.

Businesses from across Basingstoke have also given their backing with raffle prizes and equipment.

Mike, 37, who lives with his wife Michelle, 26, in Coleman Close, Oakridge, said: "I'm overwhelmed by all the people who want to come on board - there's been a very good response.

"Organising this event is what's keeping me going at the moment and it looks as thought it will be a very good day."

The Earl of Portsmouth has donated £1,000 towards the sponsored children's walk, which is taking place on his Farleigh Wallop estate on September 29.

Basingstoke firm Motorola has supplied eight radios for organisers to co-ordinate the event on the day and bosses at Safeway and Sainsbury have said they will come on board.

The event will raise cash for CLIC - Cancer and Leukaemia in Children - and children ranging from those taking their first steps to teenagers up to 16 are being asked to take part.

Anyone who wants to get involved, or is interested in helping out at the charity event, should contact Mike on 01256 359281.
