ABOUT 20 workers at a Totton firm are facing the prospect of redundancy.

Taylor Barnard Container Services has chosen to axe its transport division following its sale to cargo giants Roadways Container Logistics.

It plans to "focus on its core activities of warehousing and distribution". Drivers at the firm's depot in Eling Wharf in Totton were only told about the decision yesterday and are said to be furious.

Only transport staff are being hit - all other employees will pick up jobs with the firm's new owners.

Overall 100 people at sites in Southampton and Felixstowe will be affected by the sell-off.

A spokesman for the firm said he did not know when the Southampton transport division would close.

He added said: "Discussions are going on at the moment.

"If we can we will re-employ the staff elsewhere - there might be jobs all over the country.

"We employ 2,200 people have 60 depots across the country.

"If we can re-employ them we will."
