Being the 1000th entry in Skandia Life Cowes Week proved a lucky omen for Robbie Cameron-Davies who won the Rocking Chair Trophy in his brand new Ker 11.3 I-Site yesterday.

Denmead yachtsman, Cameron-Davies, a member of the Royal Ocean Racing Club committee, finished just over a minute ahead of his rival Ker 11.3 On a High, raced by Michael White but his winning margin on corrected time was 40 seconds.

It earned him a small model of a rocking chair, mounted on a plinth in a glass case, which was presented by the Island Sailing Club in Cowes.

Before 1985, the club used to present a full size replica and the recipient was allowed to keep the chair for ever. But the tradition came to an end 16 years ago when a Frenchman won the award and suggested it remain here in Britain, in the bar at the Island Sailing Club to be precise.

James Richardson's Barking Mad, the Farr 40 that won the Farr 40 racing earlier this week, came third in the Rocking Chair Trophy while Charles Dunstone came fourth in his Corby 41.5 Nokia Communicator.
