First Division newcomers Millwall have finally completed the signing of Steve Claridge on a free transfer after months of wrangling.

The former Portsmouth striker won compensation from the Fratton Park club over his sacking as player-manager just 22 weeks into the job.

And Portsmouth are to appeal against the Government's decision to refuse a work permit for Croatian midfielder Robert Prosinecki.

The 32-year-old was refused a permit as he has not played in at least 75 per cent of Croatia's international games over the past two years.

Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric and director of football Harry Redknapp are expected to appear at a hearing in Manchester next week and are confident of a successful outcome.
