ROBIN SMITH has warned his players not to assume anything or take anything for granted as they look to complete a rapid-fire hat-trick over Durham tomorrow.

Having blown Durham away inside three days in the Cricinfo Championship match, and then thumped them by 64 runs in Sunday's NUNL clash at The Rose Bowl, Hampshire might be entitled to think they have the psychological edge going into tomorrow's C&G Trophy third round clash at Chester-Le-Street.

A five-wicket win at Durham at the same stage of the NatWest Trophy last season en route to the semi-final might give Hampshire even more cause for optimism, but Smith is determined his players won't be showboating it.

"As far as I'm concerned, what we did at the weekend counts for nothing.

"We played some excellent cricket in both the championship and National League games, but we'll draw a line under them and start afresh.

"Durham will be a tough proposition on their own patch and having been beaten by us twice in a short space of time will be keen to take revenge in front of their own supporters."

Smith is adamant that promotion back to the top flight in the championship remains Hampshire's priority but knows it is equally important to have a good run in a competition which provides their last chance of an appearance at Lord's this season.

"We didn't do ourselves justice in the B&H Cup and it would be nice to have a good run in the Trophy," said Smith.

If Hampshire get past Durham they will probably bump up against last season's one-day kings Gloucestershire, who won all three limited overs competitions.

"We got to the semi-finals in this competition last season and to get that far in any competition you're going to come up against good sides.

"If you have any ambitions of reaching Lord's you have got to beat some good teams at some stage, so it may as well be early on so you can get them ot of the way."

Hampshire's only injury concern surrounds Derek Kenway who dislocated a finger on Sunday, but he is confident of being fit.

"It's not a rare thing for me to dislocate a finger and it popped straight back in so I should be OK," said Kenway.

Alex Morris and Giles white, who both sat out the National League win over Durham, return to the squad.
