RHYS ap Iola, playing in only his third Hampshire PGA tournament, muscled in on a share out of the biggest purse of the season in the BKL Tenon Tylney Park GC Charity Pro-Am.

Basingstoke Golf Centre trainee Iola fired a three-under-par 68 to finish in a tie for first place with Jon Barnes (Sandford Springs) and Kevin Saunders (Barton-on-Sea).

The youngster had set the early pace with a round which included only 23 putts.

The Army's Scott Shibley led his team of Steve Bobic, Dave Wingate and John Oram to victory in the Pro-Am team event with a 17-under-par score of 125. BKL Tenon are accountants and business advisers with offices in Basingstoke, Chandler's Ford and Fareham.

The tournament raised money for the St Michael's Hospice.

l Barnes continued his winning ways with an outright victory in the Hockley GC Charity Pro-Am.

He took advantage of the benign conditions to birdie two of the first four holes and, after a bogey at the short par four sixth, ran up three more birdies at the 10th, 11th and 14th on his way to a two-under-par 69.

After his victory last month in the Ladies Mixed Pro-Am, Rob Edwards again showed his liking for Hockley with a share of second place with Waterlooville's John Hay.

Edwards led his Pro-Am team of Pete Dixon, Mark Dixon and Paul Blows to victory with a 17-under-par 125.
