AN AWARD-winning charity worker is hoping to raise another £20,000 from organising her second Dave Wellman Summer Ball.

Tina Wellman, from West End, was awarded the charity support of the year award last October for her fundraising efforts.

She raised a magnificent £20,244 by holding a ball at the Botleigh Grange Hotel on April 1 last year in memory of her late husband Dave.

He died in August 1999, aged 48, after a two-year battle against cancer.

Tina has currently sold 240 tickets for this year's black tie bash at the Botleigh Grange on Saturday June 23, but would like to shift another 100.

Money raised from the event will go towards supporting Professor Peter Johnson and his team and the new cancer unit at the Royal South Hants Hospital in Southampton.

Tina pledges that all the cash will go towards buying valuable equipment and not be spent on administration.

Other charities set to benefit include Simon Says - a charity for bereaved children, Romsey's Cancer Care Society and the Countess Mountbatten Hospital in West End.

Comedian Mike Osmon will be calling the auction and Saints star Francis Benali will be on the guest list.

Tickets cost £45, but this includes dinner with half a bottle of wine and all entertainment.

Speaking of her award from Ocean FM last year, Tina said: "I was so proud.

"To think that the money raised may have helped to save a life is very rewarding. Time is a great healer. Every time I do something like this I do it for Dave.

"We both felt so strongly that we wanted to raise money to fight this terrible disease."
