SALISBURY City have made enquiries after Havant & Waterlooville goal-getter James Taylor.

The Wiltshire club are believed to have had their initial bid turned down for the Southampton-based hitman, but are looking into ways of raising the money the buy him from their Dr Martens Premier Division rivals.

Jimmy Smith has not been offered terms for next season, leaving Whites keen to find a new strike partner for top gun Paul Sales, who has got the all-clear to play again after a groin operation.

Taylor would fit the bill perfectly having formed a formidable frontline partnership with Sales during their days together at Bashley.

Taylor, though, still has a year's contract to run at Westleigh Park and there is no suggestion yet that H&W would be willing to sell a player whose appearances were restricted last season by the hot scoring form of Jamie O'Rourke and Dave Leworthy.

Meanwhile, there is talk that Salisbury's young midfielder Wayne Turk could be invited up to pre-season training by Gianluca Vialli's Watford.

Jewson Wessex League outfit Eastleigh have signed former Gosport Borough goalkeeper Andy Smith and 19-year-old striker Mike Mullins from Downton.

Ten Acres manager Trevor Parker also has Andover winger Lloyd Webber in his sights, but he may lose midfielder Charlie Balfe who is training pre-season with Bognor.

Two other new coaches have joined ex-Christchurch boss Colin Williams on the management staff at Eastleigh - former Fareham boss Bill Moore and goalkeeping specialist Ian Brown.

New Bournemouth Poppies joint-managers Keith Williams and Shaun Brooks have begun their team-building work at the JWL club by capturing Tony Krunic from Christchurch and Lewis Till from Wimborne.

Downton are still looking for a manager for their Wessex League side. Anyone interested can contact Jim Blake on 01725 512347.

Basingstoke Town have made their second summer swoop on Bath City.

The Ryman League Premier Division outfit have signed goal-scoring midfielder Jimmy Fraser just a fortnight after tying up a deal for former Bristol Rovers striker Mike Davis.
