EVERY time he plays on this year's European PGA Seniors Tour, Hampshire's Peter Dawson will be helping children who suffer from EB, an agonising skin condition.

The former Ryder Cup and World Cup player (pictured) from Whitely near Fareham, has agreed to represent DEBRA on this year's tour.

DEBRA was formed in 1978 as a self-help group for families with EB and, with the blessing of his sponsors, Mizuno, Dawson will carry the name and logo on his golf bag, shirt and sweater.

DEBRA spokesman Tim Seabrook says: "In recognition of Peter's support, we have agreed to form a syndicate to match 20 per-cent of his likely tour earnings.

"In his first year on the European Seniors Tour he earned £50,000 and finished 20th in the order of merit. This year there are are more tournaments and Peter expects to improve on his 2000 performance."

The syndicate will be known as the DEBRA Butterflies Club and it is hoped to sell at least 100 units at £150 each(which should qualify as a charitable donation for personal tax purposes. For each unit the purchaser can nominate Peter's estimated total earnings for this year. At the end of the season, on November 4, the three unit holders who have guessed most accurately Dawson's total sterling earnings will be invited to play a fourball with him at a club of his choice.

They will also be credited with one unit in the following year's syndicate in addition to being given free individual entry into DEBRA Golfing Society Members Tournaments in 2002.

Dawson has agreed to make himself available to attend DEBRA Golf Days and give clinics and will also play for the DEBRA Butterflies team in pro-ams preceding tour events. "Your support would be greatly appreciated," says Tim.
