WORK is ready to start this spring on the development of desperately-needed extensions at Chandler's Ford Infant School.

At present, the school operates from different buildings on the site at King's Road, and one main objective of the new scheme is to remove the temporary accommodation. The £344,000 package, approved by Hampshire County Council, will involve developing a single-storey extension on the eastern side of the existing building and another extension on the northern side.

A hut, currently housing an undersized hall and kitchen, will be demolished to make way for the new building. Beech House, accommodating the administration service, will also be bulldozed. Demolition work will take place during the May half-term holiday to minimise the disruption to pupils.

The annexe accommodating a double temporary classroom and play area to the north of the site, will be demolished, and the land sold for residential development. But the annexe will stay in use until the new extensions are completed by March next year.
