Wayne Bridge insists there is more to come from him in the wake of last night's Spanish lesson in Birmingham.

The Southampton defender was bitterly disappointed that his first England Under 21 start produced a 4-0 home defeat by Spain at St Andrews.

He did not look out of place but a young and inexperienced England side were no match for the technically superior and stronger Spaniards.

Afterwards, Bridge admitted: "I was steady but I can play a lot better than that. I just hope I get a chance to prove it.

"My aim now is to try and get in the next squad and get another start to show what I can do.

"It was a great thrill to be in the team but the scoreline rather put a downer on it.

"I don't think I played to the best of my ability and I felt really tired after the game at Middlesbrough.

"That took a lot out of me and the way we played last night meant a lot of running. The manager wanted me to bomb on but I couldn't because we were being overrun in midfield.

"We did not get the ball down and pass it enough for me to get down the flank while their passing and movement was something else. They were quality.

"I was pleased with the free-kick I put over for Gareth Barry just before half-time. It was a good chance and, had we scored then, it might have been different.

"They were a good side with excellent technique and I will take a lot of things from this game into the Premiership.

"It was great experience for me and a real honour - even though it was a bit disappointing overall."
