Kevin Saunders fired a six-under-par 65 to make a dramatic climb up the leaderboard in the Hampshire PGA Espana Pro-Am at El Paraiso in Southern Spain yesterday.

The Barton-on-Sea tournament professional had a run of four birdies round the turn, then sunk a 30-footer to save par at the 17th after hitting his tee shot into the water hazard.

Saunders moved up to second place, a stroke behind Corhampton's Ian Roper who followed a first-round 72 with a three under par 68.

Highlight of the pro-am section was a 14 under par 128 from Roper's team of Bob Terris, John Cannon and Jesse Winterbourne which included an eagle three from Cannon. The four-round tournament moves on to Santa Maria tomorrow.
