AWARDS for South Coast organisations with an interest in tourism were made at the annual meeting of Destination Southampton, at the city's Hilton Hotel to winners nominated by local and regional tourism businesses based on performance and standards of product and service.

Destination Southampton is the city's, non profit-making visitor bureau which has been established to promote leisure and business tourism in the city and its region.

Chairman of Destination Southampton, Stuart Chappell, of the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, and chairman-elect Stephen Munn, of The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu presented the trophies.

The winners were:

ACCOMMODATION AWARD: Dolphin Hotel, at present undergoing renovation. Katie Garland, general manager and Viv Cooper, reservation manager collected the award.

MARKETING AWARD: Compass Magazine. Pauline McArdle, commercial manager collected the award.

VISITOR ATTRACTION AWARD: Southampton City Council Events Team.

Dave Dilnott, special events manager and Sue Cheriton, events/entertainments manager of Southampton City Council Events Team collected the award.

FACILITIES FOR THE DISABLED AWARD: Shopmobility. Lisa Thomas, co-ordinator and Dominic Ross, volunteer of Shopmobility collected the award on behalf of Shopmobility, Castle Road.

COMMERCIAL CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS AWARD: Southampton Institute.

Lindy Jessup, commercial operations manager and Michelle Granger, commercial lettings and events co-ordinator of Southampton Institute collected the award.

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO TOURISM: Kevin Gilling, former general manager at Chilworth Manor.
