SAINTS boss Glenn Hoddle is set to throw the book at Hassan Kachloul after getting sent off in a stormy end of to a match which Leeds manager David O'Leary accused The Dell crowd of influencing referee Paul Durkin.

Kachloul got his marching orders for a second bookable offence for his part in an unseemly scuffle, sparked by Leeds striker Alan Smith.

Smith's reputation for hot-headedness reared up again as he escaped with just a yellow card after throwing a punch at Saints midfielder Mark Draper, who was also booked.

But Kachloul waded into the fracas and received a second yellow card for grabbing Olivier Dacourt by the throat. That spelled the end for Kachloul who had been carded earlier for dissent after arguing over the placing of a free-kick.

Saints Moroccan midfielder had been wound up all week at the prospect of facing Leeds, and Hoddle admitted: "He bit. Leeds got a little bit frustrated and there were a few unsavoury things happening out there.

"Hassan reacted poorly and unprofessionally and it was a reaction that could have cost the team dearly and that will be spelled out to him.

"He was feeling sorry for himself after the game but he would have been feeling a lot more sorry for himself if he had cost us three points.

"I didn't like Hassan's reaction and he will be dealt with. We will nip that in the bud and he will be dealt with severely.

"Other clubs have got to do what they've got to do, but I will certainly deal with my players as I see fit."

Saints will now wait anxiously for referee Paul Durkin's report as Kachloul also appeared to put his head in a Leeds player's face as he left the field."

But amazingly, despite the fact that Smith appeared to be the catalyst as it all went off, O'Leary pointed the finger at The Dell crowd.

"The crowd influence referees here. You're compacted in, and the crowd were high. The crowd got vamped up, it was handbags all over the place.

"I don't like that, and the game didn't need it," said O'Leary who claimed to see little of the incident. No disrespect to Southampton but where you have to sit in those dug-outs, you can't see a thing.

"I don't know what their player got sent off for. Like everybody else I'll watch it and dissect it on TV, and if there's any action to be taken, I'll take it."

"If there's anything to be dealt with on my part I'll deal with it."
