Hamble Social A, captained by Ian Crook, have turned in three impressive results in the Snooker Premier Division run by the Southampton Social Clubs League.

Desperate to avoid the drop back to Division 1, the Beaulieu Road team scored a resounding 8-2 win on the away tables of Chandler's Ford B and followed up with another 8-2 at home to 1999 champions, City Transport A.

Star turn Gary Palmer rattled home a superb 50 break on week number 12 when they entertained Totton Rec A, but the experienced hands of Totton's Richard Martin and Vinny Jones saw the latter through to a 7-3 win.

Hamble, not to be deterred by the loss, bounced back on week 13 to defeat fifth-placed Warren Social B six frames to four. Division 2's Salterns WM A, who lifted the Peter Marchi KO Cup last season, have struggled to get their act together during the first five weeks of this campaign. But now they have won six matches on the reel, and in so doing jumped from 12th to second place, putting pressure on long-time leaders Bishopstoke Institute. For the latter, Gary Martin has just knocked in the high break for Division 2, a timely 50 against third placed Shirley WM D.

Division 6 table toppers Ex-servicemens A are forging ahead having lost only two matches and they are doing their best to shake off the attentions of Botley Inst B, whose Simon Taplin found form last week with a fine 30 break in their 4-1 victory over BAT.

Captains in Divisions 6 and 7 are reminded that Ex-servicemens only have the use of one table for home matches and these games start at 7.30pm.

*The second round of the Euchre Pairs KO takes place at Woolston Social at 8.30pm on Tuesday, and the following night sees the preliminary round of the Ted Richards Memorial Trophy at Testwood WM Club. Fourteen individuals play for a place in the first round proper to be held on January 17.

*The Peter Marchi Cup continues on Thursday, December 14 with 22 teams from the lower divisions battling for a place in matches scheduled for January 18.
