THE destiny of the London League 3 South West title could go a long way towards being decided at Rugby Camp tomorrow when Portsmouth host their arch rivals, Gosport & Fareham.

If Portsmouth increase their unbeaten run to eight games, the second league defeat for Gosport, would leave them a mountain to climb to repeat last season's league-winning feat.

Reorganisation meant Gosport were not promoted and this still rankles at Gosport Park.

"The boys will be determined to continue their run of successes against Portsmouth," said Gosport secretary Iain Rackham.

Gosport have had the edge for five seasons and Portsmouth have only ever beaten them once in their six league meetings.

It is a bogey Portsmouth will have to exorcise some time and their director of rugby, Nigel Morgan, is confident they can do it this time. He said: "We trained with Havant on Tuesday evening and had a tremendous session of contact situations. Nick Ettery, Dave Thomas and Matt Gronow are all back and we only have an injury doubt over Mike Caspell."

Southampton travel to Cranleigh in London 4 South West with Martin Jones as hooker to allow Andy Shaw to play in the back-row. Alvin Jenks's return to the club is marked by his debut at scrum-half, as Mark Gordon replaces the injured Alex Scott on the wing and Martyn Sheridan resumes at centre.

A wedding within the club means Tottonians make a couple of changes for the visit of Cobham, including replacing skipper Miles Northover at hooker with veteran Murray Townsend. The return of Clive Wilkes, Paul Goodall and Micky Johnson following injury also mean changes. Lee Dempster makes his league debut at full-back.

Trojans have a Hampshire 1 fixture at Guernsey and coach, Richard Cheal says: "We are looking to get back to winning ways in the league with a revised back-row." Ben Boyes and Steve LeBas are flankers with Dave Sherry at No8 and Cheal said: "Tristan Allan has been selected at centre because he plays like another back-row." Andy Morris returns at hooker.

Romsey captain Darren Sharpe is still injured and acting captain Chris Geyton says about their match at Millbrook: "Hopefully we can start again this week but we are still hit by injuries."

A halt to the run of four consecutive league defeats is certainly high on the agenda at Romsey as they re-introduce Guy Patterson at fly-half to partner Adam Trotman who continues at scrum-half.

Havant entertain the side one place below them in London 1, Sutton & Epsom, on a weekend of key games in the battle for promotion from this league. Adam Jewitt moves to the wing, Steve Stapleton plays at full-back and there is a return at No8 for Nick Whittle.

Basingstoke face the daunting prospect of a trip to Redruth in National 3 South.
