BASKETBALL: Solent Stars guard Eddie Owusu has announced he is quitting basketball following his recent arrest in Southampton on suspicion of credit card fraud.

In a letter of apology to the Fleming Park club, the 26-year-old London-based player: "People have often told me the position of responsibility a sportsman holds. I guess I did not believe this until now. I have to express my deepest sorrow for bringing this upon the club.

"I would like to apologise to the fans for this and thank them for all their support - it's been a great experience."

Solent Stars directors felt they had no option but to suspend Owusu once the charges were made.

Co-owner Bob Paulley is adamant that the players are seen as good role models for followers of this family sport and said: "Eddie's resignation effectively ends his association with the club. We regret the circumstances of the events but hope that Eddie can sort out his problems, which are nothing to do with Solent Stars."
