Chandler's Ford potting prodigy Matthew Broderick has secured himself a year's sponsorship with a snooker organisation for national tournaments.

Despite only being the tender age of 12, the Cuestars group, which organises snooker events all over the South of England and runs Academy classes for talented youngsters through the club circuit, will pay Matt's national tournament fees and extra tuition by top UK coaches.

Broderick already plays in the senior Winchester league and hopes to reach the last four of the under-14s in the country this season with a current high break of 55.

His latest win at club level was the O'Sullivan cup for under-13 players in the Eastleigh & Winchester District.

Matt beat Lloyd Hallett (11) 2-0 in the final held at Chandler's Ford snooker club last weekend.

Losing in the semis were Mike Guyen (10) and Scott Hayes (11). Plate winner was Matthew Alderidge (11), beating Marco Cavagnetto.

A record entry of 34 players from the local area took part.
