HAMPSHIRE soldier Gary Wheelband is about to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime climbing exercise on the roof of the world.
The Gosport lance-corporal is aiming to reach the summit of the 6,091metre Pisang Peak in Western Nepal, as part of a month-long Himalyan trek, aptly named Exercise White Mountain Finn.
Gary, 22 - currently on a two-year stint in Northern Ireland - has flown out to Kathmandu. With his comrades, he will begin the expedition from the town of Besisahar, on Wednesday. They will make their way along the Annapurna Circuit, one of the most imposing high-altitude treks in the world.
