Winchester residents have an opportunity to air their views on a £150,000 plan to boost safety measures on a busy city road.

An exhibition on the proposed improvement scheme at the junction of Stockbridge Road, Stoney Lane and Dean Lane is to be staged next week.

The proposals include a signal-controlled crossing on Stockbridge Road for pedestrians and cyclists, and the development of a mini roundabout at the junction.

If given the go-ahead, the work would be carried out next year as part of the Winchester Movement and Access Plan.

The exhibition is to be held at the Adult Continuing Education Centre, in Stoney Lane on December 11 and 12, between 8.30am and 7.30pm.

Highway officers from the city council and Hampshire County Council will be on hand to answer questions about the plan.

Chairman of the county's planning and transportation committee, Dudley Keep, said: "I hope that many people will take the opportunity to attend the exhibition so we can take their views into account as we develop improvements aimed at improving safety for pedestrians, cyclists and car drivers alike."

City council cabinet member, Rodney Sabine, said: "These proposals are another step towards making Winchester's roads and pavements even safer and I would encourage as many people as possible to let us know what they think of them."
