A MAN who reversed straight into another car and just drove off thought he had only hit a bollard.
School administrator Michael Hilton, 63, of Orchardlea, Swanmore, told Fareham magistrates he had no idea he had damaged the BMW.
He was fined £300 and given six penalty points on his driving licence after he pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.
Magistrates also ordered him to pay £69 costs. Hilton told the bench: "At that time I was late for an appointment. I did believe I had hit some kind of bollard."
Witnesses saw him pull out of a parking space in Fareham High Street straight across the road into the BMW before driving off.
Passers-by took his registration number and police later tracked him down after the accident on September 22.
