HAMPSHIRE'S Nick Weal is on course for a return to the final of the Lawn Tennis Association's national championships final.
Former finalist Weal, who has given up full-time tournament play to concentrate on coaching, still had enough power and guile to overcome last year's beaten finalist, Barry Cowan of Lancashire in yesterday's quarter-final, winning in straight sets, 6-4 6-4.
Now Weal, who battled through the qualifying competition to even play in the tournament, is now in line for a semi-final clash with Lee Childs of Somerset, who overcame Martin Lee of Sussex in three sets.
Also through to the semi-finals are Luke Milligan (Middlesex) and Mark Hilton (Cheshire).
Julie Pullin of Sussex will play Lorna Woodroffe, of Surrey in the women's final.
