WORKING out regularly can be an effort even for the most dedicated of gym-users.

But a fundraising fitness instructor from Eastleigh hopes to sign up scores of volunteers willing to build up a sweat over the next four weeks - all in the name of charity.

Gym guru Simon Fleming, who works at Fleming Park Leisure Centre, is asking motivated members of the Images Health Studio to work out at least three times a week for the whole of November.

The call to man the exercise machines comes as part of a national campaign that will see thousands of gym users raising funds for the charity Diabetes UK.

Participants are awarded points during the sponsored exercise regime that will enable them to build up the cash for the charity that is highlighting the impact of the potentially devastating disease.

Exercise is one way in which the onset of diabetes can be prevented for some and has been proven to help those who already have the condition. Simon said of the Fit For Life 2000 campaign, which is being sponsored by Dolmio: "We are delighted to be taking part.

"Not only will we be encourag-ing people to take regular exercise, which is beneficial to them, but we are also helping to raise money for Diabetes UK, helping them fund research, education and support for people with diabetes."
