AFTER months of planning, the charity fireworks display at Thruxton race circuit was a sparkling success - with record ticket sales for this year's event.

Organised jointly by Andover Rotary Club and Andover Round Table, 'the millennium fireworks experience' attracted massive crowds, with 7,500 spectators packed onto the banks of the circuit to watch the display staged by Brilliant Fireworks, based near Salisbury.

The night was extremely popular, with free buses from Andover, and organisers were delighted to have to open the reserve car park, even if it meant having to delay the display for a short while to allow everyone the chance to reach the area.

Organisers have thanked everyone involved in the display, including Henry Pelham for permission to use the site, and BARC at Thruxton for guidance and co-operation in staging the event.
