THE high standard of local basketball was demonstrated at Totton College where Solent Stars under-18s outgunned Southampton Trailblazers 93-57 in the RAF Careers NBL Junior Conference 4.

The strength of Gavin Hart, the height of Paul Young and the control of James Davies turned the game Solent's way, although coach Jimmie Guymon was unhappy with his team's execution of offensive plays.

Defensively the unbeaten Stars were as mean as ever, restricting Southampton to under 30 points in both halves.

For the Blazers, Alex White impressed with his skills and three-point shooting while Jon Fernandes and Ed Blount continued their good form and work-rate against bigger opposition.

A lean spell of scoring in the second quarter meant Blazers were always chasing the game but it gave coach Paul Cox the opportunity to give valuable court time to his bench players, including new boy Nathaniel Phillips.
