THE RECENT storms mean Palmerston will be on more familiar territory when their travelling rinks play Arun in the Vivienne Trophy.

The Fareham club romped through their first-round match 91-64 against Bridport and now face the Bognor Regis team who inched past Bournemouth 72-69.

Two rinks are held at home and two away in this English Women's Indoor BA club championship.

But as last month's gales ripped off parts of the Sussex club's roof, they have booked the Victory club in Portsmouth as their home venue on Thursday, November 16, a green just down the road from Fareham-based Palmerston.

Ann Craig's foursome stole the show for Palmerston against Bridport by thrashing Pat Cole 33-9. They were given excellent support from Rita Reynolds (24-14 against Val Cozens) and Kay Peck (24-17 against M Pestelle), while Janet Chinn went down 24-10 to Edna Cumberland of the Dorset club.

Atherley also made short work of Dorset opposition slamming Moonfleet (Weymouth) 97-67.

June Penfold's rink starred for the Southampton club by outgunning

Monica Hodder 36-9 and she was backed by Gwen Weaver (26-10 against Rita Payne) and Mella Longland (22-13 against Jill Chiswell). Those wins easily made up for the 35-13 reverse suffered by Fay Buckingham against Moonfleet's Margaret Smith.

Five Rivers swept past Isle of Wight 98-73 led by Margaret Annetts (38-9 against Auriol Ash) and Mary Buckle (32-18 against F Williams).

The Islanders replied with victories by Jane Ford (23-14 against Maryann Menzies) and Jean Sorbie (23-14 against Pat Hayter).

Havant crumbled 93-55 to Dolphin with P Thompson (20-16 against Peg Hepburn) the Hampshire club's solitary winner.

Iris Maidment was pipped 18-16 by Jean Collier but there were heftier defeats for M Thomas (36-11 to Ann Tully) and J Anderson (24-8 to Pam Watts).

Second-round draw: Palmerston v Arun, Atherley v Five Rivers, Dolphin v Victory, Banister Park v East Dorset, Rivermead v Loddon Vale.
