Pompey manager Tony Pulis faces further pressure as he tries to beat off bids for his key players.

The Pompey boss claims to have received seven figures bids from three different Premier Division clubs for young star Gary O'Neill, midfielder Nigel Quashie and defender Shaun Derry.

But Pulis is equally determined to stave off the offers, despite being told by chairman Milan Mandaric that he has to off-load players.

Mandaric, who arrives from America this week, has told Pulis there is no more money for players after bankrolling a total spending spree of almost £7million since his takeover of the club.

Pompey's Serb chairman is concerned at the size of the club's wage bill and has told Pulis he will have to self-finance any further acquisitions. Pulis, though, is determined to hold on to his best assets.

"Three clubs have inquired about O'Neill, Quashie and Derry and each have offered over a million. But I'm not really in the market to sell our best players, especially the likes of Gary O'Neill, who is going to be a good player and is the future of this club," said Pulis.

The Pompey boss had the bonus of Kevin Harper returning from the bench in last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Burnley and the little winger is relishing the prospect of more involvement in Sunday's crunch match at Stockport.

"It was good to get back in with the boys on Saturday after being out for five weeks.

"It's been frustrating sitting on the touchline, watching and knowing you could be on there, especially as people have been saying we've lacked a bit of width," he said.

"I don't think we've been playing that badly, it's just that results haven't gone our way."

Meanwhile Pompey have made it easier for fans to contact them.

Any supporter wanting to ring the club, now simply has to dial POMPEY.

The club have launched a new alphadial number of the type that has been in use in America for some time.

Although the club's existing switchboard number will remain, it can be reached by 0700 2 POMPEY.
