A TEENAGER was subjected to a multiple rape while visiting her sister at Southampton General Hospital.

Her attacker dragged the young woman into a female disabled toilet and raped her twice.

The 17-year-old from the Bassett area of Southampton.

Police said the girl's 30-minute ordeal has left her devastated and they are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the attack.

In particular, they want to speak to two ladies who may have used the toilet while the attack was taking place on Sunday between noon and 2pm.

Detective Constable Jerry King, of Shirley CID, said: "It is a very nasty attack and she is devastated by it.

"She is quite ill herself anyway and for her to be a victim of this particular assault when she is trying to get better is terrible.

"The man has followed and taken advantage of her and it is disgraceful.

"We are trying to trace the two ladies who may have used the toilet and would have heard or seen something unusual or that they were unhappy about."

A hospital spokesperson said: "No complaint was made to the hospital and therefore the management were not aware of the incident.

"We do not have security cameras in the toilets or on the wards because we have to preserve the privacy and dignity of the patients.

"The trust would be appalled to think that it had happened on our premises and we will have to wait and see what the outcome of the police investigation is.

"We would be most unhappy to think of any incident taking place on our premises to any of our visitors, patients, or staff."

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and is currently helping officers with their inquiries.

Anyone with any information on the attack should contact Det Con Jerry King at Shirley Police Station on 0845 045 4545.
